SPECIAL PUBLICATIONS

“MICROCREDIT SPONSORING BY SCHOOL CLASSES.”

Citizens can easily replicate what earned Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank a Nobel Peace Prize. Online platforms like www.kiva.org connect microcredit sponsors with small entrepreneurs overseas (who explain their situation and needs – for example $100 for buying piglets; and re-selling them for $500 the same year). Kiva has just passed $100 million of credits delivered. Just like Grameen bank, Kiva has a 99% success/repayment rate. We shared this concept in a 5 minute chat with a 12 year old student in Berlin. 3 months later, he had inspired all classes of his school to each sponsor a microcredit. Altogether, the school now alleviates more than 100 people from poverty every year. The finance pool repletes incessantly and the project will continue rolling by itself through their school life. A unique, practical experience for subjects like Global Learning, Education for Sustainable Development etc.

We have created simple yet comprehensive guidelines for use in schools, along with excellent links for more, such as (1) video speeches by Muhammad Yunus about Social Business, Microcredit Sponsoring for beggars, and other ingenious ventures turning the old business paradigm upside down. (2) 100 sustainable business innovations and (3) 100 Eco-Tipping Points, approaches that turn crisis into affluence, with videos and teaching tools – sustainability learning at its best!

.VARIOUS EDITIONS OF YOUTH-LEADER MAGAZINE

Continental Editions & Topic Editions focus on particular regions or topics of psoitive change and sustainability solutions. It is clear that these editions will instantly change the common, simplistic depiction of Africa, the Arab World, Indigenous People or Urban Sustainability (among others). This gives them outstanding value for education!

National & Local Editions are powerful tools for innovation. They show what’s happening, who is doing what and where to join on a regional level of practical relevance. Again – outstanding practical value for education, service-learning, participation and personal development.

Our Priorities presents a choice of relevant online campaigns & petitions from various sources. We define such participation as a practical learning excercise on reflection, opinion-forming and democratic expression on global sustainability issues. Furthermore, it features portraits of young changemakers, organisations, tools for large group decision-making, active citizenship and more – excellent for education.

YL Replicate! is our own initiative for accelerating the simple replication of Great Practices by providing decision-makers in politics and economy with packaged information, practical steps and expert contacts for taking these sustainability solutions to scale in their regions of influence. Another outstanding insight to outstanding sustainability solutions with a direct opportunity for students to become the change through knowledge transfer and responsible citizenship.

An INFORMAL SUSTAINABILITY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

To make positive change for sustainability, youth-leadership, hope and creative action a part of students’ reality, it is not enough to treat it once a year in one subject in one classroom. It needs to be present every day, in quality, dynamically changing and participative. In its own, reserved space.

Positive News Boards make the world’s best knowledge present in Schools & Universities – visible to the entire student and staff community daily, 24/7, at no cost. Simply Download, Print, Post YL Stories as wall display in school hallways.

From an educational perspective, this Positive News Board serves as Informal Sustainability Learning Environment (ISLE). The amazing global solutions and human examples inspire dialogue, classroom activities and provide a pathway for conscientious youth to connect with changemaker communities, feed on humanity’s delightful mindfood and take reponsibility in their local community!

This global stage is an excellent opportunity for adding Local Positive Change Initiatives – in global context. And this can be the first step towards evolving a Local Edition together with other schools.

A “Digital ISLE” (with a computer and internet access) enables research, reading, video viewing, dialogue, conference streaming, expert chats, distance training…

No matter where in the world, YL’s 4 x UNESCO status signals school principals and teachers YL’s exceptional value for formal and informal sustainability learning – and supports every committed educator, student and parent to promote its set up in schools.
